Candid, dynamic, friendly ... and memorable are some of the words used to describe Janet Mitchell. Her fun, engaging style keeps her audiences wanting more. As a master storyteller, she shares her heart, passions and faith, relating incidents from her life that will touch you and make you laugh. Janet addresses relevant life issues and how it just takes one to make a difference in your world!

Janet has held staff positions with Youth for Christ and Forest Home Christian Conference Center and has served as the director of a Christian preschool. Janet is a popular speaker for women's events, MOPS, family camps, and parent groups.

As a senior in high school, Janet lost the use of her legs following surgery. On the night of her tenth surgery, she met Marty, who became her cheerleader and was alongside her as she learned to walk again. Eventually, he became her husband. Janet and Marty have been married for over thirty-five years and have three children. Janet's knee problems reoccurred when she was thirty-two. She was horrified to learn she had been a victim of medical negligence, fraud and concealment. Her additional surgeries had been attempts to correct the mistakes. Janet has since become a voice for others who have suffered medical fraud. Assembly Bill 2571, borne out of her misfortunes, unanimously passed both the California Assembly and the Senate and was signed into state law on August 31, 2000. Her story, Taking a Stand, has motivated others to "take a stand" and remain firm in their faith through the good, bad, and the outrageous.

Janet has been featured on radio programs across the nation, including popular programs such as Focus on the Family and Billy Graham's Decision Today. Janet has appeared on television programs such as, Fox, CBS and ABC News, Aspiring Women, The Harvest Show, and Chuck and Jenny. Her stories and articles have appeared in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Multnomah's Stories for the Extreme Teen, and in magazines such as Woman's World, Light and Life, and Celebrate Life. Her testimony, When Doctors Make Mistakes, was published in the July/August 2005 issue of Today's Christian Woman magazine.

Janet's book, A Special Kind of Love, published by Broadman and Holman and Focus on the Family, has been highlighted by Rick Warren in his "Ministry Toolbox." Her Hands on Faith: Family Nights and Hands on Faith: Family Fun books by Carson- Dellosa are now available along with Janet's five new Praying Scripture Flip Books. Janet's Taking a Stand was released in November of 2006. It is truly a testimony of God's faithfulness through the good, bad and outrageous. One thing Janet has learned is: It Just Takes One to Change the World We Live In!

Speaking Presentations

Can You Sleep When the Wind Blows?
What do you do when the winds of adversity blow through your life? Are you spiritually, mentally, and physically prepared, so you have nothing to fear? In 1993 when the California firestorms blazed, God taught Janet that just as the firefighters were on watch through the night, God too was and is on night watch. He never slumbers or sleeps. Through Can You Sleep When the Wind Blows? You’ll hear God’s promises and discover that you can withstand the storms in life and find peace in the midst. (45 minutes-3 hours)
Taking A Stand
What do you do when you discover that your life has been forever changed and you must now live with the consequences of someone else's mistakes and sin? How do you quench the anger that blazes? As a high school student, Janet had surgery and lost the use of her legs. Ten surgeries and fifteen years later, she was stunned to learn that her "poor" surgical outcome and current conditions were due to her doctors' secrets, mistakes and lies. Janet's personal testimony of anger, faith and forgiveness, is sure to inspire all. Through her life lessons, she shares that forgiveness begins with a decision to forgive. Jesus shows us that it can be done! (45 minutes-3 hours)
It Just Takes One
Toss a pebble into a pond and what do you get? A ripple effect, a motion set in place by the power of one. Are you ready to be “the one”? Are you willing for God to use you? “It Just Takes One” is an inspiring, empowering, and exciting presentation, sure to change the way you think. Janet brings the story of Esther alive, demonstrating how one voice, a single pair of unlikely hands, or simply having an obedient heart, can change the lives of many. If God could use just one woman like Esther to change the future for generations to come, surely He can use you, to make a difference in your home, community, or world. Join Janet and discover how to release your God-given gifts, allowing a positive ripple effect to begin. (45 minutes-3 hours)

The Red Cord
We've all been there—in overwhelming situations that appeared far "too big" and where we saw "no way out." In Janet's talk, The Red Cord, she shares the story of Rahab and her simple, yet incredible faith. In desperation, Rehab hung a Red Cord, stepped out and trusted, despite her past, vulnerability, rejection, fear for her life, and human odds against her—and God was faithful! Janet says, "You too, can hang a Red Cord—a visible reminder and symbol of the faith you possess. Your Red Cord can be a tool that redirects your thoughts, challenges your disbelief and reminds you of God's truths and faithfulness." (45 min-3 hrs)

The Queen’s Banquet
"Hear ye! Hear ye! You’re invited to a royal celebration.” Join Queen Esther “for a time like this.” Encourage all Cinderellas seeking “glass slippers” and a “happy ever after” to grace you with their presence. Make your dreams come true as you grasp the understanding that God’s love woos you every day of your life. Discover how it feels to be clothed with the Robe of Righteousness and a jeweled tiara. Join daughter’s of the King as together you reflect, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” O precious child, your beauty’s true, for what I see is Christ in you.” The Queen’s Banquet is a message that will radically change the imagine women have of themselves as they discover their royal identity. (Great for a single presentation, a “girl’s night out” slumber party, or retreat, for teens and women of all ages.)

Living Royal
“For a time like this …” Esther 4:14. Summon the Daughters of the King and all Cinderella’s seeking a “happy ever after” for a life changing weekend. From Rags to Riches explore the (your), rights, responsibilities, and realities of kingdom living in the 21st century. Ponder your Dreams and Glass Slippers discovering you’ve not yet imagined what God has prepared for you who loves him. Laugh through Janet’s testimony A Damsel in Distress. Determine to live lives that honor the King—live royal! (A perfect retreat, for teens and women of all ages.)

When Women Dare to Dream
All of us have a dream—a goal, aspiration, or vision that we long to see come true. When Women Dare to Dream is for those who wish to turn their God-given dreams, into reality. What are your dreams? What are your secret passions? Could they change your life, or generations to come? Through this time together, Janet will show you that “dreams are not impossibilities; they are God’s gift to all believers.” Learn how to go from being a dreamer to seeing your dreams fulfilled. Explore the stories of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Mary, and discover how they found courage, took risks, trusted God, dared to dream, then changed the world. (45 minutes-3 hours)

What You Say is What You'll Get
Words we speak, write, think, and pray often become our destiny. Are your words based on facts, or fears from “what ifs”? Do your thoughts reflect the truths from God’s Word, or does doubt shout so loud you embrace it as reality? Words are powerful. It just took three of them to change the course of Simon Peter’s life. Moses’ life took a u-turn when he spoke three words, “Here I am.” Six words, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas,” set Barabbas free as Jesus died in his place. Through What You Say Is What You’ll Get, you’ll discover how words determine your future and what words can change your life. (45 minutes-3 hours)

Girlfriends Who Rocked The World
Have you met them--a group of girlfriends that together challenged each other and changed lives? Take a venture with Janet back to the time of Christ and explore some friendships that rocked history. What was it about those friendships that kept the women on task and walking towards the tomb? What was it about Elizabeth that drew Mary to her side? Discover the sisterhood these girlfriends of yesterday experienced, and then watch as you and your girlfriends rock your own world for Christ. (60 minutes)

Against the Odds
What is your greatest excuse? What do you say to avoid doing what you need to do? Moses gave excuses to God because he felt inadequate. Peter gave excuses when he was afraid. The paralyzed man, who laid by the Sheep Gate Pool and gave excuses for thirty-eight years, finally gave up. Yet, against all odds, Abraham believed, dreamed, and expected God to be faithful. And so can we. As you hear these stories and Janet's personal story, intertwined with the scriptures that she clung to, you will be encouraged not to give up. You, too, can rise above the odds that face you. (45 minutes-3 hours)

All I Know About Love, I've Learned From Others
How does one learn to love? Who does one turn to to tell ‘em how it’s done? Through All I Know About Love, I’ve Learned from Others, Janet leaves her audience laughing and in awe. One by one, she shares stories of those who taught her what true love really is. By the examples of others and God’s redeeming grace, you will leave knowing how deeply loved you are and be challenged to be an “other” to the world. (30-60 minutes)

What's Your Excuse?
So what's your favorite excuse? What reasons do you use to keep you from following your dreams, fulfilling your passions--or obeying the Lord at all cost? Discover from Janet's much loved Excuse Bag and Wall of Bricks the truths behind what's really holding you back. Examine the reasons you avoid, procrastinate, compromise, say "no" (or even "I can't"!). Discover how to unlock the doors to your future. Grasp the amazing reality that God's presence, plans, and provisions provide all that you need to conquer your excuses and fulfill the desires of your heart. (45 min - 1 hr)

Prayer Conference / Retreat

Discover the Power of Prayer
What do you pray about? Or maybe a better question would be, “what don’t you pray about?” If you really, truly, believe that God hears and responds to your prayers, would it change how often you pray and what you pray for?

Let’s spend a weekend together discovering the power of prayer. You will rediscover that prayer is an intimate conversation, a chat, an exchange, an apology, a discussion, a heart-to-heart, communion, and dialogue with God. It’s where we tell God our concerns, fight our battles, talk to Him about our day and lives, intercede for others, listen to God’s voice, and worship His majesty. Through prayer, hope is renewed, faith is restored, hearts are changed, a direction is given, perspective is gained, freedom is found, the impossible becomes possible, and miracles are experienced. So, “what do you pray about and how often do you pray?” CHECK AVAILABILITY

Parenting & Family Topics

Words, Words and More Words
Deuteronomy 6:7, 9 instructs parents to talk to their children. The first words our children hear upon rising and the last words they hear at the end of the day can make a tremendous impact on their lives.

Do the words we say really matter?

Has anyone ever said they were proud of you, that you were talented, valued and loved? Did these words move, transform, and motivate you? What words have stuck with you since childhood? Have they given you life or pain?

Yes, words do matter--to God, to others, to ourselves, to our kids. Whether spoken, written, or imagined, they have the power to transform or destroy lives. Through our words, we challenge our children, guide them, inspire them, and love them. Discover with your family through hands-on, faith-filled, and fun activities with Scripture what God says about the power of words. It just might change your life and your children's lives forever! CHECK AVAILABILITY
