"But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33 NKJV This verse has sustained me through good times and more importantly the difficult times. I became a Christian at age 16. We had made a difficult transition to Washington, D.C. because my father served an aide to President Richard Nixon. Moving pulled the rug out from under me, but I began a new journey of faith. As I grew in the Lord, my father was not fond of the changes in me. He felt I was drinking too much of the Kool-Aid. When I felt led to leave my modeling career after ten years and transfer to Columbia International University (CIU) to study the Bible, he told me, "You will never be a success in this world.” To him it was the “Forbidden Place.” Although he loved me dearly, he did everything he could to dissuade me from going including cutting the purse strings. My first day at CIU, I cried the whole way there. I felt torn between my earthly father and my Heavenly Father, but I knew I must follow the leading of my Heavenly Father. It was this verse that gave me comfort that day. If I put God first and was faithful to what He wanted me to do, He would take care of the rest of the things that were troubling me. From that point on I simply trusted Him. I’m not saying it was always easy, and at times I had my doubts. Over time I would see God was working from the first moment I put Him first. Remarkably, four years later my father gave his heart to the Lord. My parents both entered a new journey of faith and surrendered their lives to fulltime Christian ministry. As you can see, the Lord went way beyond this little girl’s heartfelt prayers and He does have a sense of humor! To prepare for his ministry, my father went to the “Forbidden Place” – Columbia International University! All of the professors who mentored me would now mentor him. In a nutshell, God calls His people to be faithful first. He is not interested in “worldly success.” And when you put Him first, he does take care of the rest! Only trust Him! *** From Ginny’s message “Missions is the Heartbeat of God”
