Retreats & Conferences
How can you keep your energy, happiness, creativity, and relationships fresh and thriving in the midst of never-ending family demands, career pressures, and the stress of everyday life? In Sacred Rest, Dr. Saundra, a board-certified internal medicine doctor, reveals why rest can no longer remain optional.
Dr. Saundra shares seven types of rest she has found lacking in the lives of those she encounters in her clinical practice and research-physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, sensory, social, creative-and why a deficiency in any one of these types of rest can have unfavorable effects on your health, happiness, relationships, creativity, and productivity. Sacred Rest combines the science of rest, the spirituality of rest, the gifts of rest, and the resulting fruit of rest. It shows rest as something sacred, valuable, and worthy of our respect.
By combining scientific research with personal stories, spiritual insight, and practical next steps, Sacred Rest gives the weary permission to embrace rest, set boundaries, and seek sanctuary without any guilt, shame, or fear.
Come Empty: Healing for Every Place Life’s Hurt You
Pain is a universal denominator. It crosses gender, race, socio-economic status, and education. Pain does not judge, nor does it discriminate. Pain is real and it can be debilitating. As an Internal Medicine physician, Dr. Saundra spends most of my time helping hurting people. However, much of the pain entering her medical practice is not the physical type; rather, it is the emotional and spiritual kind. It is the type of pain that drains the life out of life, and leaves you wondering if it is even worth the effort.
It is here in this place of emptiness that you are given a most amazing invitation, an invitation to simply come. Not an invitation to become, nor one to seek; but rather an invitation to bring your stressed-out, worn-out, tired self to the well brimming with Living Water. It is an invitation to be renewed, strengthened, guided, restored, and satisfied. It is an invitation to live fully; to come empty and be filled. In this emotionally impactful and spiritually cleansing session, Dr. Saundra leads groups to:

Treat the Cause, Not the Symptoms
Prescriptions are a necessary part of Dr. Saundra’s life. Helping patients experience optimal health requires the ability to not only diagnose but also effectively treat. Over the past decade there has been a shift from focusing on the cause of medical problems to focusing on the symptoms. This practice has led an emotional, spiritual, and physical disconnection as we try to heal physical symptoms while ignoring the emotional and spiritual causes which are at the root of many of them. "We recently had Dr. Saundra present a day-long conference for faith community nurses, chaplains, social workers, counselors, physicians and Stephen Ministers. She was able to explore the wholistic definition of brokenness in patients/clients and provide ways to authentically minister to them where they are in their life's journey. She is personable, genuine, Christ-like and a breath of fresh air. Our audience loved the continuing education and new ways to care for the whole person, as well as identify when they as caregivers may be broken. Dr. Saundra provided a morning workshop for women of all ages. The women worked through their own struggles with being a well woman and what God's wants for us as busy women in today's world. The women loved the event and stayed around for fellowship, sharing and praying together." ~ Karla Cazer MS, RN, CNS-BC, Faith Community Nurse Manager, Sioux Falls, SD
