What sets Ron Righter apart? He has lived out his Christian faith in one of the most exciting, stressful, demanding and challenging professions. For three plus decades, he has been a successful college basketball coach. He has seen first-hand the bright lights of the Big 10, the Pac 12, the venues of Division 2, and the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship Tournament as a player and coach. And in that time, Ron has coached more than 500 players, from diverse backgrounds, and has spoken to thousands of young people and parents about character and faith through his clinics.
Coach Righter has always been highly motivated to help others reach their potential. That’s why he was considered a “player’s coach.” He understands the pressures, the adversity and issues that people face today. He is able to reach people with his exciting messages because he cares about them as individuals and they sense it. Ron teaches life lessons based on scripture and he engages his listeners just as he was able to hold the attention of his collegiate athletes.
Ron’s tremendous enthusiasm, experience and faith make him an ideal speaker to virtually any group seeking to learn how to grow in their Christian walk, tackle life’s trials and make a difference. He will challenge and motivate you to succeed where it matters most. And Coach Righter has a tremendous wit and sense of humor, which makes it more fun for everyone.
Currently Ron serves as Athletic Director for the Norfolk Christian Schools in Norfolk, VA where he mentors players, students, and coaches. He has been married to a wonderful Christian woman, Julie, since 1981. They have a loving Christian relationship and have raised two outstanding adult children Emily and Matt.
It's Game Changing! Celebrate the Power of Small Wins
Celebrating small wins will bring your game to a new level. Setting and achieving small goals allows you to link positive feelings with the effort you put into achieving that goal. Ron contends, "You begin to build momentum, you become more confident, courageous, and creative and your energy level dramatically increases." Whether it's on the court, in the classroom or in the workplace, Ron helps his listeners develop the skills necessary to put themselves in position for the big victory.
The Urgency of Now
Our time on this earth is brief, and we are aware of its fleeting nature. Let's not be the generation of shattered potential. Ron charges, "It's time to leave our comfort zone, step forward with strong leadership and be a light for a hurting and ever-changing world." There is no time for business as usual. Ron challenges the listener to be someone who is in pursuit of a good race. Be accessible. Be someone to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Be available to give a word of encouragement. Brad Formsa writes, "Ordinary people's lives are turned upside down as they start looking for unusual opportunities to give." Use your gifts. Make a difference now.
Trusting God When Life Does Not Make Sense
We cry out: “Why me, Lord? What is your plan for me? How can I complete this mission? When will this misery be over?” When the odyssey of suffering takes hold of our lives, we become overwhelmed by the depths of despair. Ron’s from-the-heart message is a reminder that God is with us during the dark days in the valley. Ron shares his personal story of pain and suffering. By trusting and embracing the Suffering Servant, he endured the hardship, put it in God’s hands and came out stronger than before. This lesson of trusting God and never giving up hope can help comfort your soul.
The Power of Choice – How You Can Make a Difference
Abraham Lincoln once wrote, “One person can make a difference, simply daily acts that touch others, normal people offering extraordinary services, whatever you are, be a good one.” Ron suggests that even the smallest of gestures make the world a better place, an encouraging remark, buying a cup of coffee for a friend, calling someone with whom you haven’t spoken in quite some time, or attending a Little League baseball game (even though your kids have “left the nest”). In James 1:22, it says, “Be doers of the Word and not hearers only.” True and heartfelt difference-making cannot be delegated; it is personal. Ron challenges his audiences to go to where God needs them the most and to be bold in their mission. Be someone who others can trust. Be empathic – understand how others feel. Be a person of your word. Be a mentor - helping others to reach their full potential. Create value for others and always remember those who have helped you along the way, for they made a difference in your life.
Remembering the Names
“I have long believed that sacrifice is the pinnacle of patriotism.” – Phillip James Bailey
We must never forget the names of our fallen heroes. God never forgets them. He feels the agonizing pain and deep sorrow of all the families and friends left behind. Ron reminds us that God’s sovereign hand is moving throughout the past and the present, giving us greater courage to face an unknown future.
Today’s Visionaries, Tomorrow’s Leaders
America is starving for new and dynamic leadership. A new vision is required. Tomorrow’s leaders are summoned. Ron’s empowering message challenges the visionary-listener to step forward with confidence, take risks and be grounded in Godly principles. We need servant-leaders uniquely qualified to fulfill the urgent assignment, equipped with passion, a sense of duty to “give their full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice, and courage.” – St. Francis of Assisi

Just Another Walk in the Country
Imagine walking and talking with the Risen Christ on the road to Emmaus. Ron captures his listeners with his creative story-telling and making the walk come alive. The scripture records one disciple stating, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us?” Imagine ... face-to-face with the Risen Lord. Ron breaks down Luke 24: 13-42.
Jesus Is Coming
After the Resurrection of Christ, 500 saw Him alive. Some talked with Him, some walked with Him, and others ate with Him. Many saw Jesus ascend to Heaven. Two angels promised His return. Ron carefully identifies and highlights several of the Bible’s prophecies that tell of His second coming. Most of the world never saw Jesus’ glory ... They will see it! God will not disappoint us.
Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness
In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord is offering a true happiness, but it comes with a price; only Jesus satisfies. Ron walks his listeners through this passionate pursuit of the Bread of Life and the Living Water.
Behold, I Am Making All Things New
The Psalmist wrote, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for you, O God! My soul thirsts for God, for the living God… when shall I come and appear before God?”. Ron examines Revelation 21 and shares the Apostle John’s vision of a glorious kingdom. Christ is preparing a place in Heaven for all believers; a place where we will see God face-to-face; a place where He will dwell amongst us forever.
I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In
Ron compares three ships: The Titanic, Noah’s Arc and the Love Boat of Salvation. All aboard! However, the question remains: What ticket have you purchased and where is your destination?
How to Think and Act in Dark Days
After 9/11, we all asked: What is the message here? What does it all mean? The world news is on constant replay. We are bombarded with catastrophes, disasters, famines and terrorism 24/7. Ron helps his listeners to view the world the way that our Lord wants us to understand it. We are all living on borrowed time. Our mission is to spread the Good News to the world that is in dire need of a Savior. Ron warns that many will deny and become hostile to the messengers of the Truth. He urges his audiences to adopt the credo: “Use us, Lord Jesus!”
Three Strikes – You’re Out!
Peter denied Jesus three times; Peter struck out. He was broken, defeated, devastated and alone. But the Lord did not give up on Peter. He got Peter back in the game. Ron’s empowering message helps his audiences to understand that with God’s undying faith in us, we will win the day.
Jim Penner writes, “There is no burden you carry that is beyond God’s power to lift from your life … There is no stress heaped upon your psyche that is beyond God’s gentle hand to remove.”. Ron invites each listener to hear God’s voice and to find rest in Him.
A Glimpse of Glory
The Transfiguration of Jesus Christ is one of the most critical, glorious and majestic events recorded in the Word of God. It is a scene that gives both a powerful and crystal clear testimony to the deity of Jesus Christ. Ron gives his listeners a front-row seat to witness a supernatural spectacle.
Where is the light? Where is the church? As salt and light, we are called to sweep through the world for God’s glory finding the lost. Ron inspires us to never flinch, to take up our cross and spread the Good News! We are challenged to be in constant pursuit of a good race and to use our spiritual gifts to honor God. It is our duty to illuminate the Truth of Jesus Christ.
