TREASURE BEYOND THIS WORLD | DAVY LIU

When I was working on The Lion King, I began to think about the possibility of the King of all kings being known all over the earth through animated stories. However, I enjoyed my success as an artist and, like all filmmakers, dreamt of achieving an Oscar. God used a distasteful bag of cookies I had discarded in the backyard, for the next day, I saw the whole bag of cookies covered with ants. This caused me to imagine a hard-working ant who sacrificed his sleep to discover this abundance of cookies. He must have been kicking back in his mansion, enjoying the achievement of his lifetime.

If only I could tell this successful ant that his greatest accomplishment was trash in my eyes! I wanted to tell him about this so-called refrigerator in my house where a variety of boundless items lay: sandwiches, steak, jam, and even ice cream. I knew no matter how much I could try to impress this ant with the idea of my refrigerator, he would not be able to fathom its existence. I began to feel pity for that ant, but realized that I was that ant in God’s eyes. God did not want me to be proud of my “bag of cookies”. It was nothing compared to treasures in heaven which were like a “Super Costco”.

​I realized that God had things beyond my human understanding and instantly felt as small as that ant. Matthew 6:19-21 states, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.
As a Christian working in Hollywood, I knew that God wanted me to choose wisely how I invested the talent he gave. This revelation changed my desire to utilize my talent not to win Oscars, but to win souls for Christ through Kendu Films Creative Storytelling. My life journey has been transformed from The Lion King to the King of kings. We Kendu it!
